Hi guys,

I've been following the lcd laptop thread and the search for suitable controller cards. But now I found the below lcd panel and wonder if that would remove the need for controller card.

I am I am thinking of buying this lcd for a good price of $87. I found the specifications at http://www.lcdspecifications.com/necpdfs/10ac2801l_d.pdf and it looks suitable for the projection system. I also found this picture of the lcd.

There is a board attached to it and I am wondering what this is. Is it a controller board for the lcd or is it something that all lcd panels come with?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info Zardoc. Just to clarify. You do agree that it looks like the panel comes with a controller? Is the only issue about moving the controller? If so then I will take the chance since its only 87 dollars.

Thank..

I does state that there is a controller onboard, I'm not sure the logistics of finding or making a cable. But for the price you are right, it does look good. Where did you find it? I might be able to tell you more from the website it appears on.

Got the panel.

I found the panel on ebay. It was listed for $60 but with a buy it now option for $87. I went ahead and purchased it because if it has a controller then it will be a great buy. Oh well now its just a matter of waiting to receive the panel.

I will let you know more when I recieve the panel.

yup this screen does have a normal VGA input...It's just a matter of building a cable for it. The pinouts are in the PDF. But I don't think it would be a so great projection panel, but still makes a great PC screen at 1024x768. Good find!

Yes please tell us why you dont like this panel?

(if that controller re-locates easily I think this is a great score)

Firstly because I don't thik the controller can be moved easyly because the cables are on 2 sides of the LCD. On these kind of LCDs, cables lenghts are very critical. Putting a longer one could reslut in malfunction. Then there is the response time of the panel. This is an a-SI TFT. The response time mentioned in the PDF is not 100% white to 100% black but 100% white to 10% black. Getting from white to complete black would take much longer. Much more like 70ms. In dark scenes this will reslut in long trails when bright objects moves. And then there is the contrast ratio. 150:1 is not much. On a small screen this is not very critical but for projection we need at least 300:1 to get something good.

Anyway this is just my opinion so take it as a grain of salt!

Merry christmas!

Thanks for the info. It might not be perfect but hopefully it could serve some purpose. If panel is not fast enough could I maybe reuse the controller for some better lcd panel?

Purchase is done so now we have to wait and see. The vendor did not ship internationally so the panel will be sent to friends in the us and then to me in France.

I'll keep the forum updated on progress but it will probably take a while before I have anything to report.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Hi ywh

good to know that its the same panel as yours. Hopefully I will be able to get the same results as you. Since its the same as yours, could I ask you a couple of questions and help regarding the board.

1. Do I only need the cable to drive this board?

2. Your panel seem to have an additional board attached to it. What is that?

3. Was it easy to remove the backlight and the board?

4. Anything that I need to be carful about?

Thanks for your help

No ,you need this driveboard
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

2. Your panel seem to have an additional board attached to it. What is that?
driveboard,it is in a LCD monitor.not is single driveboard, but you need a single driveboard

3. Was it easy to remove the backlight and the board?
yes

4. Anything that I need to be carful about?
Your panel seem to mine ,not same,my panel is 14".
Your panel contrast ratio. 150:1 is not much.
my panel contrast ratio 300:1

I'm confused!

I must say that I might be over my head with this panel purchase and making it work. From the specification and the comments from other forum members it looks like the panel comes with a controller.

ywh's panel is similar but it comes from a monitor. His panel has a second board (driver board) attached to the first one on the lcd panel.

So for the more knowledgable members of this forum. Will I be able to actully drive this board? Will it only take a cabel or will I have to buy an expensive controller card.

Please tell me I did not make a misstake. 😱

Your right that the response time isn't good, but I really think the whole "cable is too long" thing going around here is a myth.
