My Altec A4 cabinets originally came with wings. I want to use a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood each side to replace them. These are used outside only. They will have to be removable.
Does anyone have thoughts on the use of wings outdoors?
Is there enough of a difference to bother with them?
Thanks for your time,
Cal

If they aren't well braced like the originals then much of their gain will be lost to panel flexing. Still, they can be hinged to fold out of the way for moving/storage. The slight gap at the joint won't affect it enough to be audible.
Yes, there's a 6dB increase over the affected BW in a large room or outdoor app..

Wings should help with the bass extension & smoothness.
I'll have to get on the ferry and come over to Canada & see those things one of these days.

Canada?
Hi Dave,
I'm not sure but doesn't Canada start on the other side of the Rockies?
I know you're on island time and all, but...
Hey, if you find yourself here, At my place, there's beer on tap, yes, on tap
a good bowl 'o' grub, some tunes
and a spare bedroom.
Give us 24 hours notice!

Re: Canada?
If we are gonna go that far then we might as well make the border at Lak of the Woods... then we'd have bread, beef, and an eastern seaport.
Thanx... will keep that in mind. Same if you get this direction... you'd have to pick up your own beer thou.

Beautiful BC
Thanks Dave,
I'll be there tommorrow around five. Please have beer pre-chilled and waiting. I only eat seafood. A couple of 7" dungeness each sounds good.
Just need your address.
When I looked at your website, I noticed you stand above the crowd and proudly display your Apple symbol. Couldn't be happier to see it. I'm a Mac man also if you hadn't guessed. I want to discuss further with you about the ins and outs of websites. I am a total newbie. Should this be done via email? Do you think you could help?

Man, what could be worse then cheese-head mac-heads...
😉
Well I'm a born Canadian myself too so...
Pretty amazing the number of people that post here and live in NW Washington, and SW British Columbia.
oh, and it's a bit late in the season to be crabbing.

Re: Beautiful BC
Meet me at Sound Hounds... regular coffee klatch 5-6. 1532 Pandora .
I can't be bothered wasting my time on any other platform... the Mac gets in my way the least (my 1st Mac was a 128k).
Web help, yes via email... once you get a handle on what you can't do it is pretty easy.

Dustin: I'm only a Cheese head when I watch the Packers.
I'm a Mac head because I don't feel like dealing with crashes or viruses.
And I can afford a Mac.
Crabbing season is 12 months of the year at the T&T market. $3.99lb Cdn.
I used to throw out my own traps but it cost me about $140.00 lb when you add in the boat. The T&T one's come from the far side of the island.
Dave: When I'm actually coming to the island, I'll certainly give you more than 1 days notice. Haven't been over for a couple of years.
GM : Thanks for your serious answer about the wings, that sounds good. If I can get a 6dB boost that just might be what I need. More bass hmmm...
I will stiffen them well, no point in having them cancel themselves out.
