Howdy,
I just aquired an Epson Elp-3300 projector with a burned out light.
I'm looking for specs on the ballast so I can retro fit a light instead of paying $300 on a light, which is about 3 times I paid for the projector itself.
The bulb is a 150w MH Epson LP-3300 or Infocus LP580, but I can't find any specs on it.
Any info on the specs of the ballast or a replacement light of some sort would be a great help!!!!
Thanks,
Newpaltzwonder

Cannot answer your question, but as far as I know each LCD projector uses their special ballast and bulb. I remember somebody mentioned that even if you can find the spec the subsitute bulb might not be cheap either, and may not work. You might use an 'external' light source and use a mirror to dirrect it into the optics.
Now, I need a favor from you. if I am not mistaken, your projector should have a 'Y' cable for the vga. the end to pc is HD15 and the end to the projector is HD26. I have a lcd projector in repair that should use the same cable that I don't have. could you find out the pin out for the cable. You will need a multimeter to do it to see which pin on one side is correspond to which pin on the other end. Thanks a lot!

yeah i need the same thing as 18wheeler does with a infocus lp220 i need the vga and composite pinouts from the cable wizard. Any input would be great.
Thanks

I don't have the Y cable, but.....
Howdy Ace & 18,
Sorry to take so long to reply,
I don't have the cable for the Epson ELP3300, that was one of the many reasons I got the projector so cheap.
But, I think I can still help you though, I went to Epson's web site and you can download the manual. It has the pin assignments in it!
I hope this helps,

Newpaltzwonder did you manage to put a different lamp from the original or not?
The lamp it has seems to be a common MH 150W but it works at 65V, while normal MH lamps run at 90v.
I want to use the inside ballast, if I can't the only alternative would be tu use an external one, fooling the mainboard that the lamp is not plugged would be easy I think.
I will be waiting for you answer.
Bye bye

I never did find a cheap bulb that I can use as a replacement.
I eventually did a test with a 250w MH Double Ended bulb, and I had to make a new case to hold everything. But the results were not impressive at all. Not bright at all. I tried everything I could think of and decided to scrap the project and just work on something else.
Tricking the projector into running without the bulb is easy, I just diconnected the ballast and then did the lamp reset in the manual. After that it will run with the lamp indicator blinking.
Good Luck,
Newpaltzwonder.

If the ballast is good, I really need it.
I used my old lighting engine from the PTL-592U, which had bad panels, I retrofitted the bulb in the bracked, and that thing is brrriiiiggghhhtttt.
I put a 260w bulb in a 150w projector.
but the problem with this, i gotta have this big box hangin on the side of the projector (ballast/power supply).
I dont like that.
So if anyone would care to send me a ballast for one of these projectors that thier not using, I need it. because I have a good 150w bulb, but a shot ballast.

Hmm, I did a lot of trial and error with the epson projector. I eventually decided to scrap project when I managed to break two the the glass polarizers in the case.
All I did was to disconnect the ballast, rewired the bulb door switch so it thinks the door is shut, and then did the bulb reset. To check to see if the projector worked, I just stuck a flashlight in to see if there was an image.
I eventually scrapped the project when I was getting better results using a junk flashlight as a source. The 250MH bulb I have is just too big and not as good as the actuall projector bulb in terms of being a point source of light.
Right now, the projector is setting on a shelf waiting to be experimented on again.....

you know the post I made earlier, the projector is STILL working this way. 🙂 using the ET-LA592 lamp inside the unit.
i had to put some carefull engineering with the lamp though, because air has to come in through the front of the reflector, and get pulled to the back through the quartz bulb and out the vent holes on the white ceramic, or it will burn out. i found that out the hard way. hehehe.
But its STILL working that way. 🙂 ballast on the outside with its 370v power supply, the lamp had about 1500h on it before i put it in, and ive put over 2000 to 3000 hours at least on it. hell you cant see through the quartz anymore, but its still nice and bright.
if anyone like ywh has any quartz left to relamp it, would be nice. 🙂
