I am struggling to find a data sheet for these output devices.
Some sites talk about being replaced with the 2SB1587/2SD2438. And other talk about AIWA (sourced from Sanken).
There are no references to them on the Sanken website.
I have a Rotel RB-991 that I am repairing and they mention on the schematic the 2SA1492/2SC3856 devices for the outputs.
The 2SB1587/2SD2438 are 70 Watt 8A devices and the 2SA1492/2SC3856 are 130W 15A devices.
Please let me know any information on these FP1016 and FN1016 devices as I was disappointed to see them versus the 2SA1492/2SC3856 devices.
And what is the sound quality of these devices?
Any information is helpful

They are probably AIWA "In-house" numbers, manufactured by Sanken. It is quite probable that they are just re-branded 2SB1587/2SD2438 devices, although to be absolutely sure you would need to confirm this.
The 2SB1587/2SD2438 are 70 Watt 8A devices and the

How can Rotel consider these as equivalent???
One is a darlington and one is a standard device. To me it like night and day.
Wouldn't RB-991 be hard pressed to put out 200/300 Watts into 8/4 ohms using these 8A devices (5 pairs)?????
These FP/FN1016 devices can't be equal to a 2SB1587/2sd2438!!
Does anyone have a real spec sheet on these oddball devices????
I can't believe that Rotel would put these OEM (for AIWA) devices in their top-of-line Power Amp in 1997!!!!!!!
Any comments???

Perhaps it is simply a misprint? If you are repairing it, just replace whatever devices are in it with the same. If they're unavailable, look up the specs and choose a similar transistor.
It wouldn't be the first time i've seen this kind of error on a service manual!
edit: I read your other thread. I guess someone else has serviced the amp before you and installed these transistors...

Thanks Jaycee for your responses so far...
Actually I emailed Rotel looking for replacement parts and the service/parts contact said he can supply either 1016's or 2SA1492/2SC3856 for the same price. So Rotel assumes that they are interchangeable.
So that make me wonder what the heck is going on with these FN/P1016's!

Looked up a couple of suppliers. The FN1016/FP1016 devices are definately Aiwa house-numbered versions of the 2SB1587/2SD2438 devices.
Now I remember, the last Aiwa music system I repaired had these devices in. The amp was only rated 40W per channel into 8 ohms at the most. There is no way they belong in this Rotel amp.

- Does anyone have the datasheet/information for these Sanken FP1016 and FN1016 ?
