Hello everibody, this is my first post: there are a lot of interestings things here!
I have a project, for my mansard: i want that it can be my audio studio, for home recording and songs producing, or sleeping.😀
I want to build my own studio, with home made systems and i know how to;
but i have a blackhole on the table: i have to build a pc audio sound card, but i don't know how to and i have some questions:
my sound card must have 8 analog mono input channels, 2-4 analog mono output channels and an usb/firewire (the 2nd is better) cable to connect into the daw, recording the 8 channels at the same time.
I want to build my audio mixer and i have the schematics, but i need the sound card to place into the mixer, such as another commercial product for multi-track recording.
In it, i connect the instruments at the 8 inputs that have inserts for analog effects, selections for phono/mic preamp with phantom power and tape outs for headphones with selection of instruments to listen (this is all already built in analog).
Then the channels go over the firewire into the daw.
In software i can decide what and where the inputs and the outputs channels are connected to.
Anyone know a circuit with 8 channels configured as inputs and 2-4 channels configured as outputs, connected via a firewire cable to the computer?
The type of channel (input/output) must be selected from the hardware device, becouse in the patchbay software (jack on ubuntu studio) i have to see 8 channels on the left (inputs) and 2-4 channels on the right (outputs), without any other driver or software.
Thanks before the answers, goodnight!

There is a large selection of Firewire audio interfaces for your application.
This is the big brother of the Edirol FA-66 i got
Roland U.S. - FA-101: FireWire Audio Interface
If i had a larger budget i'd be looking at things like the Metric Halo.

Yes, i saw theese commercial products, but i want to build my own card.
Isn' t a problem if it take a lot of time or patience.
