I finished my screen today! I'm in a finished basement so I have totally blank walls to work with, so I went with the paint the wall route. It looks great!! I marked out the area where the projector shines... measured, squared it up, and marked the area with pencil. Then I put masking tape around the area and then put on 2 coats of ultra white ceiling paint for the screen surface. Then i took off the masking tape and had a perfectly shaped 4:3 screen (actually more like 3.7:3 since a DIY OHP projector doesn't have enough width for perfect 4:3). Then today I bought some "gaffer's tape" from a local theatrical store... it's matte black and is similar to duct tape. I put the 2" wide tape around the perimeter or where I painted the ultra white, and voila, a very cheap and very good looking screen! It looks eerily like a da-lite matte white screen. I like to do semi-professional looking work and I have to say I'm very satisified with the results. I will have pics up soon... I know I've said that before but I'm going to go out of my way to make good on that promise within the next few days.
As a side note, the rest of my home theater setup is rapidly nearing completion. I'm going to JoAnn Fabrics to get a huge piece of fabric to drap over an old couch that will serve as the main seating in my theatre. I should be ready for the "premier" sometime on saturday and I figure I will show Gladiator. Does anyone know if blockbuster has the DTS version of Gladiator?
