That's a nice project! I was actually thinking of mp3 player for a car. This one looks even better - working of CF card.
The only stopping issue for me right now is PCB printing. Would it really cost $25 as she (the author) says?
Thanks!

Here are two more websites for DIY mp3 players:
http://www.walrus.com/~raphael/html/mp3.html
http://www.myplace.nu/mp3/yampp7.htm
These websites sell boards as well.
I had a question about soldering surface mount packaged parts. Recently I've received a sample of PCM1748KE 24-bit DA 160SSOP. In 5mm length they put 8 pins!! It looks to me that using a regular method of soldering, I would need a needle iron and a loop to do the job. Are there any other ways to do it?
I've heard something about solderpaste, but not sure what it is.

Tin the PCB, tin the IC leads, place the IC, put flux on the pins, run a wide point iron over the pins.
Easy.
Easy.
I did not understand the procedure completely
are you supposed to put the tin on every lead and on every pin of IC with some needle point iron? or there's a way to put tin on all of them and with some trick make IC leads get soldered separately without worrying about shortening them?
What do you mean by flux on the pins?
Thanks

another question that I have is,
Can I just do this project on some breadboard without loosing sound quality? are the any potential risks I should concider?
I might as well go for learning part of the project and not care about PCB.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know with regards to soldering SMP's.
I am still wondering about prototype board (the ones you can buy at any electronic store) implementation as well as regular breadboard implementation of this or any other mp3 player and possible loss of sound quality from that.
