Since about 3 years ago I have a 12V fridge powered from my solar cells station, also powering my ham radio sets and lights. The thing 2 times lost the cooling gas (r134a) and last time I called a refrigeration skilled man, who said me that the leakage is in the aluminium evaporator (The white unit below). Thinking that it isn't too complex device, a piece of tubing creased and soldered to a board, and that a new unit may have the same problem because to join aluminium ans copper is very difficult although impossible, I asked to the pillows, and they gave an idea: to make it of my own. A really DIY copper evaporator. And here is the result.

Pretty cool, Osvaldo.
I used to work with a lot of copper sheet and pipe, making UHF filter structures for an RF company I worked at. Sliced my hands up a lot from the sharp edges, I don't miss that part! Are you doing anything to keep the cooper from turning green?

Still not. Copper hydroxide is toxic, I know that, but the height of the evaporator doesn't enable me to put big things inside it, and, still less directly on the plate.
Keep in mind it has been put into service last saturday 10 am aprox.
