Im looking to build a 4ch amp with dsp capabilities. Ive looked at classdaudio's modules and think they will fit the bill nicely. Low noise, low distortion, efficient, not terribly expensive etc. I would like to add a minidsp in the case as well to give me plenty of dsp capabilities. How exactly would I incorporate the dsp board to the amp modules? And what power supply would i need?
Power supply specs for the amps come from your amp supplier (if that was what you were asking). For the MiniDSP power, you could use the power amp supply - for instance if you use a switching supply, there are some that have an auxilliary output just for this purpose. If you will use a linear supply (transformer+rectifier+smoothing caps) then those rails will be too high to be of much use, but you could build into the case a small regulated power supply for the MiniDSP only.
Another bit of advice: Make sure that the amplifier input sensitivity is around 0.5-0.7Vrms for full rated output @0.1% THD. This will allow the MiniDSP to have a little more output voltage to give before running into the digital 0dB point, where it will clip in a very audible way. You want any clipping to happen in the amplifier.
Other than that it is just connecting up the inputs and outputs to the appropriate places.

Is one power supply more desirable than another (switching compared to traditional transformer)?
The amp modules in question would be the cda-245 or the sds-245. Im not sure if the sds is worth the extra money or not.
Would a preamp be necessary, or would the minidsp take cover that?
