I was hoping to design my own 3way speaker probably using Vifa drivers and have started to look at some programs to aid me. I have looked at :
Speaker Simulator
Soundeasy
Speakerpro
perfectBox
LspCad
Speaker Workshop
WinISD
blaubox
boxplot
They are either really really user-unfriendly (or is that "idiot like me"-unfriendly) or give greatly different frequency response curves to the other ones that i managed to get working. This is probably due to my own incompetence but its still very disconcerting.
There doesn't seem to be specific programs to model multi-way speakers as they all seem to focus on the bass driver. Is this because everyone is obsessed with their sub's or because the woofer has the greatest impact on how the box should be designed. I suspect the latter, but does this mean that the midrange has no effect on box design. I realise that this is probably an indepth topic so I would love some links to informative sites.
There also doesn't seem to be too much information on the net behind the theory of designing speakers well not at my level anyway(ie. fairly introductory). I don't want to concern myself with standing waves inside
the box and other such technicalities. I realize that probably everybody looks at speaker design (and amp design) at different levels but i would have thought that there would be some fundamental principles or at least some clearly defined rules for the moderately-interested-but-not-fanatical people like myself.
Anyways any info would be gratefully received.

If you have not already seen it there is the http://members.chello.se/jpo/ link which has much more information on your questions. Also, the www.madisound.com site forum may be more helpful and experienced about your design.
Good luck.
Good luck.
