does anyone know the correct pin settings for DIT4192 Dit4096
digital audio transmitters?
I get the wrong sample rate, even though it is in consumer mode.
The description in the datasheet is not understandable...

Sample rate data has loaded into the device through a serial port. That is most easily done using a microcontroller.

should be in "Consumer Mode", my Parasound DAC-1500 shows a wrong sample rate, which clearly indicates, that the signal from DIT4192 is in professional mode. (I have a sample rate converter from Z-Sys, wich is switchable between consumer an pro modes,
that is why I know)
Also my Sony DTC-5ES Dat does not lock to the signal.
Again, the table of the pin settings ( I guess figure IV or VI) is not
well explained in the DIT4192 datasheet.
My goal is to run DIT4192 in Consumer mode without setting the copy protection/generation bits. I put pin 3 ("L-copy generation" to low, and pin 2 (Pro-High Consumer - Low) to low, but it does not work.

That table refers to Master Clock selection.

Page 8. The CSS Input.
In Hardware mode, the state of the CSS input (pin 1)
determines the function of dedicated channel status inputs.
When CSS = 0, the COPY (pin 2), L (pin 3), AUDIO (pin 22),
and EMPH (pin 23) inputs are used to set associated
channel status data bits. The COPY and L inputs are used to
set up copy protection for consumer operation, or indicate
that the transmitter is operating in professional mode, without
copy protection. The AUDIO input is utilized to indicate
whether the data being transmitted is PCM audio data, or
non-audio data. The EMPH input is used to indicate whether
the PCM audio data has been pre-emphasized using the
50/15μs standard. See Table VI for the available options for
these dedicated channel status inputs.
When CSS = 1, the channel status data is input in a serial
fashion at the C input (pin 2). Data is clocked on the rising
and falling edges of the SYNC input (pin 12).All channel
status data bits can be written in this mode, allowing greater
flexibility than the previous Hardware mode case with
CSS = 0. See Figure 5 for the C input timing diagram.

but what does this mean in practice? With CSS-high, I do still connect
the pins like being described in table IV?
Or does the data become some kind of hybrid of the pro and consumer formats
and the receiver will pick the the data needed. Unlikely, because different subcode information in pro/consumer share the same bits...

It means you have to understand the structure of the Channel Status Bytes and load the relevant bits serially.

Well, which I don´t.
Right now, pro mode works best (Copy/C, L, CLK1 set to high/5V)
With L and Copy/C - low, ("pure" Consumer Mode according to the datasheet),
the DIT transmits the wrong Sample rate; my Parasound DAC shows 44.1 as 48khz, but does play the signal withot any glitches, the S/PDIF Input in my Macbook Pro will start to click after a longer time.
In Pro Mode, everything works fine. Only my Sony ZA5ES DAT refuses the signal over Coaxial/Optical input, no matter, in which combination the pins of the DIT4192 are set. Signal level is o.K, 0.5V

I have the latest datasheet SBOS229B revised 2003 & there is an error.
On page 4 the setting of CSS are given as Not Connected mode=0 software mode; mode=1 hardware mode
On page 8 & subsequent pages the settings are CSS = 0 hardware mode; CSS = 1 software mode.
I have written to TI for clarification. Did anybody solve this, OP?

My mistake, it isn't wrong - the hardware/software setting on pg 4 is referring to pin 28 MODE setting between hardware & software.
The CSS settings on page 8 only apply to hardware mode of pin 28 & are for determining how the channel status bits are set either via hardware settings of pin 2,3 ,22, 23 or via software.
I suspect that the reason my or the OP's DAT doesn't lock is due to the copy bit being set.
