Discharge of DC build-up in Electros

In almost all amplifiers, electrolytic capacitors are used to block DC in the NFB loop (in series with the gain setting resistor) except where DC coupling is possible. These electrolytic capacitors are often bypassed with plastic film types for better HF response.

In some designs, diodes like IN4148 are used to discharge the electrolytic caps and prevent DC build-up.

The question is, what phenomenon is observable when these diodes are not used?
