Demetri, Half Chang or ? for FE207e

I've been given a pair of FE207e's and I would like to build a nice set of cabinets that get the most out of them. I can't do anything as large as the full size Chang designs and am currently leaning towards a pair of Demetri's. I have been generally shying away from the MLTL designs as my understanding is this sacrifice some efficiency, please correct me if I am wrong. I would like to be able to use these with a lower power SE amp.

Are there any other designs in this size range that I should also be considering?

All back-loaded designs are limited to the inherent efficiency of the driver as they only operate over a relatively narrow BW. A wide-baffle design or horn variation may however allow you to avoid loosing efficiency through needing to correct for step-loss with some form of Eq.

yes, it's a fairly easy build, but not a small enclosure. I built a pair with FE167E, and even without an extra layer of material on the sides to accommodate a large chamfer, they are 447mm wide x 898mm high x 239mm deep (17.5"x35.35"x9.4" WHD)

Anyone considering this design should think about making at least part of the rear panel removable,( at least during the process of fine-tuning by ear) to allow for adjustment of damping materials.


I can't honestly remember if dimensions were changed much for the 207

Actually those sound like very reasonable dimensions compared to some of the big double horns!

I have the 207 fitted in the Demetri - I love the dimensions but am not really impressed with the result.

Is there a thread showing how to damp it?

I think that somewhere Dave at Planet10 has a "map" of damping scheme, but it might not have been posted in a separate thread

So true, 72" or taller and 20-24" deep can be a bit of a hard sell for some domestic situations.

Now, if my wife cared as much about the quality of sound as her garden or her new granite countertops, it'd be a different story.

I am working on (very slowly...) a FX207 ez BIB. Tall as all get out, but a narrow footprint.

I'd love to try a BIB someday but the only place I would get away with it is in the basement where the ceiling is low enough I think to cause issues.
