Buy a suitable xlr plug .......£2

buy an rca phono socket ....£2

some wire ...£0

mate the two ! [could use a short cable but the ones I've made the rca shaft fits snuggly in the xlr body.

connect pins 1 and 3 in the xlr tp rca ground and pin two to signal.

you will find this a very acceptable solution [I have].

Hi,
there is a difference in signal level between SPdif and AES of about 12 to 14db. There is also the difference in impedance of 75ohm to 110ohm.

I think strapping the DCX input cold pin to ground forces the input stage to double gain. That leaves just 6 to 8db signal level and a small gain due to impedance mismatch.

44kHz sampling may be ok with the impedance mismatch but any higher may have reflection problems causing signal misreads.

However, IT IS WORTH TRYING the cheap way. It may work.

The DCX2496 expects 0.3 to 10 vpp across 110R. SPDIF is around is 0.5 to 1 vpp across 75R. I'd seek to up the level a bit.
Grounding one leg will gain you nothing. That only works with certain types of output stage.

All I'm saying is it has to be worth a try .....at less than a tenner

if it dosn't work the only solution is to build or buy a transformer converter.

But on the bassis that the 2496 units use similar curcuits its got too be worth a go
