Looking at the warped spiders of my Tang Band W3-881S, I really wonder if they manage to center the voice coil to at least 10% of the linear displacement range, i.e. 0.1 mm for +/- .5 mm.
Then www.klippel.de reports on various commercial drivers which are not optimally centered statically by design or where the VC develops an offset dynamically due to assymetry of the inductance.
I wonder if a few 100 mV DC would in some instances help to recenter the VC to the optimum position and hence reduce disto. Anybody tried?

Hi
I have also been thinking adding a little DC offset for my downfiring sub to keep it from sagging. But I dont know if there are any drawbacks.
