DC Choke for power supply

Hi,
I am a bit of a newbie as far as chokes are concerned.
An air cored choke does not saturate. Imagine the gap = ring of iron. Big disadvantage of air cored is very large size and high resistance = very high cost.
how about a large diameter cylindrical ferrite core to increase the inductance? gap = the part of the ring that is missing.

Hi AndrewT,
As long as you don't saturate the core, use the smallest one you can find. DCR will be lower and the footprint of the choke as well. There really is no point to using a larger component than is needed.

I will Use DC Choke with power supply amplifier. It use current 3-5 Amp. I saw the power supply of Amplifier use DC Choke as attach file. I think, It will good than with out DC choke.(I'm not sure!!!)
