Does anybody have data sheets availabe for 6V6 when used as a triode-strapped class A amplifier? My four tube manuals only list it as 'vertical deflection amplifier service'.

Hi,
Characteristics (Triode Connection)
Plate Voltage 250 volts
Grid-No.1 (Control-Grid) Voltage -12.5
Amplification Factor 9.8
Plate Resistance (Approx.) 1960 ohms
Transconductance 5000 umhos
Plate Current 49.5 ma
Grid-No.1 Voltage (Approx.) for plate current of 0.5 ma -36 volts
Cheers,😉

Here's a GE data sheet with triode curves - it's

I'm sure there are others there too.

I just started a "Made in Rochester" page on my site - http://www.audiophool.cjb.net

Frank,
I think the 6AQ5 is a B7G valve - the UK equivalent is an EL90. The 6BQ5 is the EL84 equivalent, but if I remember rightly the 6BW6 is the B9A version of the 6V6.

The first amp I ever made (about 35 years ago!) was a SE job using a 6V6 in the output stage. It is a rugged tube, able to tolerate the abuse that I put it through as a novice experimenter, and I have great affection/nostalgia for it.

6AQ5, 6005, 6HG5, 6679 (7 pin), 6BW6, 6CM6, 6CZ5, 6061 (all 9 pin) are all similar to 6V6 - dissipation is limited to 12W in smaller bottle though.
one after another...
My plan is to use the 6V6 in triode as a cathode follower, with the Hammond 159M choke as the cathode load. Since the DCR of the choke is 256 ohms, the drop across it will also provide the correct bias for the tube at the same time.
This is the output stage for my next OTL headphone amp idea.
