hey, are these any good? they look too small and cheap to produce a good wallop of sound. how are they compared to makes like krell and so on?
I only know the schematics and the sound of the Cyrus 1 MKII.
There is nothing wrong with it.
I think you will be suprised about the quality.
It should be easy to scale the design up to a high current amplifier by using better transistors and put some in parallel as well. The quiescent original Cyrus I was on the low side, but this can be improved easily.
A separate power supply for the voltage amplifier will help too.
My feeling that if you build the Cyrus I, modify the current amplifier and use a massive power supply, it can be High End.

I just got a Cyrus 8 vs in for service. After repair it'll go upstairs to meet my PSB Stratus Golds.
These products normally sound good and the vs is supposed to be an enhancement. The amp design is solid but they were not intended to drive silly low impedance loads to high levels. Since this is my first vs series in for service I can't say, but I bet you they sound better still.
