Crown xls1002 conversion to 240v

Crown xls1002 conversion to 240v - Now with a fault 18-3-21.

Ok long shot but heres hoping.

A friend (lives interstate) has bought a crown xls1002 (drivecore 2).
He bought a 120v version.
He lives in a 240v location.

I haven't been able to find any service info or even a decent clear internal photo.

I'm hoping someone here can share a service manual or voltage change procedure.

I know the previous model could be changed with 3 resistors (apparently).

If no one has the info, then he'll just have to run it on a step up converter.

Thanks.. 🙂

Hi, You can refer below service manul to modify the unit from 120Vac to 240vac.

https://schems.com/bmampscom/crown/142195-1 XLS3 Service Manual 4-2010.pdf

1. remove the Jumper (Z901) to disable the voltage double rectifier circuit. --Refer page 53.
2. Add 82k/2512 packge resistor to R906/907/951/952
3. change R23 from 10K to 4.99K, R24 from 2.49K to 4.99K; this will let the MCU to recoginze the ac supply. Refer page 51.
4. Change R927 from 121K to 150K, Refer page 74
5. Find the half current rating(should be 4A) of the circuit breaker to replace your current one. since you just switch the voltage from 120Vac to 240Vac. Refer page 90

Good luck😀😀

I realize for many this may not seem useful

but I run all my gear off battery banks

so if I need devices that run off "mains" AC power, inverters are required

so 120V vs 240V - or even weird Japanese kit - is just a matter of choosing the right inverter.

Yes freedom to buy best of breed appliances from anywhere in the world

the 240V Asian and Euro stuff is **much** more energy efficient, properly regulated for Green values compared to 'Murican gear

also much longer lifespans with all power input hyper-filtered clean,

AC power from outside only charges the battery bank

no spikes surges brownouts from raw grid mains as well as protection from genset AC as well.

And of course never interrupted power, whole system is one big UPS

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen....

My friend has had the listed changes done to his xls1002 according to Erica.C above.
But apparently it is not happy.
I've had a quick look through the service manual I have (previous xls1000 version)
And all I can find is a few pages near the end for fault finding the actual lcd. Page 82 onwards.

On power up;
The two bottom green signal leds are lit up.
The lcd is blank (back light is on and working)
The CH1 and CH2 red thermal leds are flashing.

Ch1 (major fault) = three flashes.
then
CH2 (minor fault) = three flashes.

Obviously its a fault code, but what is it telling him ??

Thanks for any help 🙂

Update.
It now works and the owner is happy.

Please bare in mind the below information is from third parties.
I can not verify it.
But I have absolutely no reason to doubt any of it either.

The gentleman doing the work followed Erica.c 's description to the letter and the unit wouldn't work.
See fault description in the above post.

He decided to try the method as shown on this web page.
Crown XLS 1500 Voltage Modification

The unit now works perfectly on 240v.

The only difference I can see between the two methods is the inclusion of Erica's step 3.
Logic would therefore suggest step 3 is not needed. Or at least not on this xls1002 variant.

1. Remove the Jumper (Z901) to disable the voltage double rectifier circuit. - Refer page 53.
2. Add 82k (2512 package resistor) to R906 / 907 / 951 / 952

3. Change R23 from 10K to 4.99K, R24 from 2.49K to 4.99K;
this will let the MCU to recoginze the ac supply. Refer page 51.

4. Change R927 from 121K to 150K, Refer page 74.
5. Find the half current rating(should be 4A) of the circuit breaker to replace your current one.
Since you just switch the voltage from 120Vac to 240Vac. Refer page 90.

As always, if you do this modification your results may vary.
