Crossover for 2.5-way speakers...

Your schematic looks to be something that will work. I've built two pair of 2.5 ways and I did my xover a bit differently. Based on your numbers, I'm guessing that your two bass units are 6.5" drivers. I don't know what drivers you're using, but when I built my 2.5 way using two Audax 6.5" units, I ended up with a 1.2mH coil in front of woofer 1 and a 3mH coil between woofer 1 and woofer 2. In other words, the two woofers were wired in parallel with the 3mH coil between the main woofer and the .5 woofer. It works well for me.
Based on your chosen cross point for the main woofer, you'd use something smaller than a 1.2mH coil.
 
I will use two Peerless 850490 and a tweeter (Vifa D27TG-45-06)

Please someone, if the above xo-filter is incorrect, will someone be kind to draw me a correct xo for 2½-way system, 2nd Linkwitz-Riley.


Peerless 850490 = 8 Ohm each

Vifa Tweeter = 6 =Ohm

I'd quite happily post one if I could but I can't without
a large investment of time, effort and investigation.

Its much more complicated than you seem to think.

If you haven't bought the drivers, build a published design.

you can NOT use this schematic if you want a good sound, because of the induction of the HDS205 units (that's the "name" of the 850490 units).

You'll have to correct this with a filter with a R and a C.

I'll calculate it for you, just a few minutes...

By the way, I already rounded the values of the components to match the E12-series, so these are not the EXACT calculates values, but with the difference in T/S parameters (between datasheet and measurements), it doesn't matter that much.

hi Vigier,

looks lot better but the low bass should be rolled off according
to the baffle width by a first order inductor, -3db ~ 400Hz,
not a second-order filter.

The relative sensitivity of the the tweeter and mid bass unit
is not accounted for.

Fix the above and it will work, but there is no account taken of
the frequency and phase response of the drivers, and the
compensations possible via manipulation of the crossover.

firstly i dont know why you are using a high 800hz on the .5 woofer. anyway assuming you have your resons....

why 2nd order on the .5 woofer. 1st order willl fine.

also i find the Xo on the tweeter a bit steep. i have not simualted it (I am traveling and dont have my simulation software with me) but I would guess you should look at a larger L and or smaller C for the tweeter XO.

L-R XOs usually have large L's. I like that as I feel C's are detrimental to the sound and small C's will be less so. Just a gut feeling I could be wrong.
