Criteria for well behaved clipping

What are the key criteria for well behaved clipping for solid-state amps?

Here are plot for Sansui AU-a607MRX integrated amp clipping behavior for 100 Hz, 1 kHz and 10 kHz. The load is a dummy 8 Ohm resistor. This amp was so-called hi-end integrated amp from Sansui. However, its clipping behavior is nasty.

looks like fold-back current limiting at low frequency and clipping isn't your 1st problem at 10 KHz - you are hard slew rate limiting there

you could clip the input signal at a V that keeps you below the current limit

basically just keep the signal input at a low level that wouldn't give current, slew rate limiting - using just a fraction of the rated power
