Crate Blue Voodoo 120 Bad Pots - Can they be replaced???

Hello all,

I have a Crate Blue Voodoo 120 all-tube amp and it sounds like several consecutive pots are shorting out. I opened the head to find out what
type of pots to buy to replace but noticed they are "hard wired" to the
circuit board. It's 2 to 3 pots all in a row on the clean channel that short
out when they are adjusted. I guess it could have more to do with the
board itself and not the pots and I'm not sure it they could be replaced
anyways but I could sure use some suggestions or advice here.

Any help is greatly appreciated and...I know I could've bought a better
amp to begin with but I've always been more than happy with the sound
this amp offers.

If by "hard-wired" you mean PC mount, then yes, you can replace them, you just need to get some PC mount pots with the same lug spacing, and most likely remove the board to access them. Take care not to lift the solder pads with excess heat!

Pots also fail on more expensive brands. I've seen Ampegs, T-E's and SWRs crap out. But what do you mean exactly with shorting out?? Is it the scraping and crackling noise when turning a pot, or is there more to it?

Have you tried cleaning the controls? That is what DeOxit is made for, and it works very well.

If you actually do need replacements, the part number is on the back of the control or around the side. Look for a number like 70-103-01. Then call Loud tech and see if they still have them.

Of course they can be replaced, any part can be replaced.
