Coupling a 12 inch arm to a Thorens 160 sub platter

Hello,
Any help would be most appreciated.
I have a Thorens 160. I also have a 12 inch tone arm that sits on its own base, The base is separate and not coupled to the sub platter.
Will the sound improve if it is coupled to the sub platter?
Is there a mod I can acquire or make that will enable the arm be coupled to the sub platter.
Thx so much, Bob

Unlikely.. Anything that would make the Subplatter suspension Capable of supporting that Motor mass would render it Useless.

Probably you could attach a light but rigid extension (plywood) to the original arm base that floats together with the subplatter.

Thank yopu for your replies.
Yes, I was only planning to couple using the arm and pivoting mechanism which are very light ie not the stainelss steel arm base.

Hi Bob,
Yes, it will improve if done correctly. But, there is no way to do it in original Thorens box. Also, it involves a lot of work and calculations.
Another question is, what cartridge are you planning to mate with the arm? Will it benefit from longer and heawyer arm with smaller tracking error? If your stylus is conicall or eliptycall, no need to mess with it.
I dont know for such mod.
In your place, I would do a whole new base, with big subchasis on gel pads, and remove everything from thorens and move to new base, so that Thorens can be restored (if needed), and then play with it.
My two cents 😀
