Couple of quick questions bout ideas for first projector

Currently I own an alienware area-51m laptop, that is slowly dying... This summer I'm planning on getting a new, laptop, but I was daydreaming in class the other day and realized a perfect use for the current one. My plan is as such: I think that there is actually a fairly long cable between the 15.4 inch 1680*1050 lcd of the laptop and the base because in between the two there are speakers etc... Therefore, I feel that it would be plausible for me to remove the casing of the LCD and be able to bend it underneath the Laptop. Then with a bulb underneath the laptop I could effectively make a 1680*1050 resolution projector and Home theater pc all in one.
For TV input, i could use a 1080i hdtv tuner to pass both HD signals and standard signals to the projector. Furthermore, I have a friend who wants to get rid of a 19" lcd and would be willing to part with it for very cheap. In order to use the projector without the lamp on, I could attatch the LCD to the standard vga out port and place it on top of the unit itself. This way I could use the computer for all necessary computer functions without having to use up bulb life.

Now the two biggest worries in my head are these:
First do ballasts give of any type of electromagnetic radiation that will fry the computer the instant the bulb is turned on?
And second, I know that heating looks to be a major prolbem with the computer and bulb having to be so close. I figure ill find some way around this dillema, but does anyone have any bright ideas on the matter?
