Cooling tip!

This is a really useful tip that has served me well over the years - I tried to post this to its own thread, but I keep getting the "Use the Search" dialog...

(NOTE that this tip is primarily for U.S. readers.)

Buy 230VAC cooling fans from electronics surplus stores - they're cheap and don't require a 12VDC power supply - wire them into the main power switch. When running at 115VAC they run very quiet. (CFM is reduced, but I've never found it to be inadequate.) They last forever, too.

P.S. Mods - Sorry for double-posting this, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw this. (And I hadn't yet figured out the checkbox thing for posting new threads!)

So what do the poor people in the UK do 🙁

Only joking, not all fans will run at half speed so becarful when buying 🙂
Buy the 460VAC fans, of course! 😉

I've never had a 230V fan fail to run on 110. For those who want to heed your advice, is there something one should look for to determine if it could be a problem? Or is it simply trial and error?
