Hello,
I have an old Technics receiver which can do 5.1 surround sound with analog inputs. I have a Blu-Ray player feeding HDMI.
I would like to either find a device or make one that takes an HDMI signal (e.g. from a Blu-Ray), outputs the digital video signal in HDMI out (for the TV) and converts/outputs the digital audio signal into a 5.1 analog audio out (for the old Technics receiver).
I doubt I can find a cost-effective device that exists. What if I make it? Would the parts be affordable, say < $50?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

There's one on ebay with SPDIF and analogue (RCA) output- runs about $250 but decodes DTS, etc. No idea the quality of the DAC included. Better off getting a used receiver IMHO.

I have no idea about the quality of either product.

It is easy to replace receiver to newer one or BD-player to another with analog 5.1/7.1 out.Hello,
