hi,
I have a set of DIY preamp + tone control circuit and also a power amplifier circuit. After testing it works. But now i would like to add in an analogue VU meter (-20 till 5+) for each L-R channel. After reading some thread i know that my VU meter works on DC. So i cant connect the VU meter to the speaker + and - because speaker works with AC.
So what if i connect my two VU meter + leg to the output of the preamp and - to the GND. Does this work?
thank you.

VU meter is short for Volume Units meter.
That must surely read signal AC and convert to a dial reading of Volume Units.
Check again to see if your "VU" meter only detects DC voltage/current.

An analog VU meter need additional circuits to make it funktion. A minimum to make the meter move (just for show) would be a rectifier before and a cap across the the VU meter.
Check ESP for a decent schematic for analog VU meter. Also a nice basic read on this topic there.
