I want to use a condenser lens in my ellipsoidal-spherical reflector.
I know that it must be short focal length, but how should a condenser look like? Plano-convex?

It could just be normal convex, it doesn't need to be plano convex. To some degree, a lens is a lens, and it doesn't really matter what shape it's in as long as the focal length is right (unless you want to get picky about stuff, but just for a light source any type of positive-focal length lens should work for condensing light)
