Hi,
I turned my computer on yesterday and heard a loud bang and then nothing. It was dead. I tested the motherboard with a spare 250W supply just to see if the board would light and spin the CPU fan. It did light and cpu fan spun 🙂 so I assumed the power supply failed. I think the bang was the 5A plug fuse
I opened the PSU case (the PSU had that 'electronics smell' so the magic smoke must have escaped) and found the PCB area around the rectifier diodes to be be black / brown. There was also alot of dust inside the unit so my guess is the poor thing overheated.
Seems like the dust was being intaken but not exhausted so dust was accumulating in the unit.
Should I consider a whole new case, dust filters or cleaning more
?
