HEllo,
First poster here, but have done plenty of searching....
My questions as followed.
I am planing on building the MkIII projector box. Would you recomend buying the http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=89
or building it on my own.
second question, if i buy that project box what else would i need??
I have gathered this for the top question:
an LCD <=15"
a light source
fans
is that all i will need??
OK now after i buy/build the box to exact specs where do i go from there.
I am a noob but i would absolutly love having my xbox360 through the vga port on a screen!!!
and one more question.... You know those "work lamps" the yellow ones with the handle or it sits upon a post.... would those be a proper light source???

read there it will tell you how to build the box and what you will need. i recomend buying the box kit. also the holagon work lamps will work but not good they are way to hot and give a terrable color temp so youre picture will look very yellow for light engine i sugest the ushio 400 watt HPS bulb and ballast .. witch i have for sale .. or a hqi kit witch you can get thro DPC second if you plan on running xbox 360 does it have a vga out ? im not familiar with it ( dont have one) if it dosnt than you will have to buy a converter wich arent cheap the other alternative is to buy a OHP panel seach ebay for a ( projection panel) there are tons of diff ones but only a few are really worth useing the sharp 2500 is the best i use a sharp 1800 ... and use my xbox on it and have no problems at all i recoment the OHP panel cuz it has svideo and rca video inputs for a .... vcr dvd player xbox etc etc so you dont have to by a converter now my panels resolution is onluy 800x600 and 100:1 contrast and i have no problems watching movies or xbox on it at all im useing a OHP a dukane 641 witch i got from college surplus for $5 with a working bulb in it and my panel i got for $120 .. only that much cuz it was like brand new in the box ... and im getting an easy 120" diagnal screen on my wall for xbox now you will have to have a dark or partialy dark room for this no direct light on the wall etc and you wont get around that no matter what PJ you build i am happy with my setup and it was perty cheap and a idiot can set it up no box building or measuring stuff so if your looking for a project and want the best picture you can get and also sink $300 into building it then build a box if you like cheap easy and still perty good picture just get a OHP and a panel
here is a list of some panels and there resolution

are you planing on useing a computer power supply for the fans ? or a diff one also the hard thing about going the computer monitor rout is
1. finding a stripable monitor that is for sure stripable
2. extending cables if need be
3. finding for a decent price
4. striping it without breaking it or ripping cables and loosing alots of $$$
there are very few monitors out there that are easy to strip and dont need cable extension me personaly will pay more for one im sure dosnt need FCC cable extension but there are some good monitors out there that do need extensions its just a pain to do plus you gatta buy the extension. www.mouser.com i think there like $6 or $7 if you have the money to spend i sugest buying a new monitor to do this with if not look for ones on ebay that have bad backlights and try to get them for cheap i got mine for $50 ... then i striped it .. then my cat jumped on it and broke it 🙁 so yea lol good luck. also cheap HQI light kits are perty hard to find but DPC also sells light kits but there not cheap 🙂 but prolly a good price compaired to others.

i have been reading a bit more, so how about this.... a 400 watt HPS ballast, and the retrofitted ushio(or something like that) MH bulb??? is that right??
if your going to build a box i would go with the 400 watt ushio retro bulb and the 400 watt HPS ballast .. long life and super bright i have a ushio for sale if you have a paypal account used 2 times for less than 5 min i have ballast and bulb and socket for $70 shipped bulb was $50 new and socket $10 and ballast $45 ill sell all for $70 shipped and the ballast is perty heavy so shipping aint cheap
