How about this idea?
6AF11 or 6C11 front end and a pair of 53HK7 outputs .
Series heater string and about 350 V B+ . Figure about 10-12 watts .
Feel free to shoot this idea full of holes 🙂

Compactrons...
You Too!
It must be catching.....
Just ordered 10 12GE5 Compactron Horiz O/P bottles to play with!
Great minds they say!😀

The 6GF7 seems like a nice one to mess with. You could implement a directly coupled cathodyne with the two smaller triodes and have a nice triode push-pull amp with the big ones.
I've built three compactron amps so far... thinking about a much bigger one soon!

I used 8AL9 to drive MOSFET in class A hybrid, sounded superb. I'll post a schemo if find it.
Also, I tried 24JZ8 with the same results (filaments of both channels were powered from the same 50V source I used for output MOSFET source follower loaded on bipolar modulated CCS)

Alastair E: I also bought some 12GE5s from the last sale at AES. Never did much with them. Also got some 12HL7s to play with. Thought about maybe triode strapping the HL7s as drivers.

The 6GF7 makes a good SE spud amp in the 1 to 2 watt range. The pinout is compatible with the 6LR8 which is a much bigger vertical output triode - pentode. It is possible to make an amp that will work with both tubes.

Antique electronic are currently selling 13GF7 for 75% off ($1.52). I just bought a lifetime stash. 195 left.

You might squeeze 4-8 watts with two in push-pull. In SE, there are other compactrons I like more, like the 6FY7.
Vertical output tubes are great but...
I'd like to do something a bit bigger , hence 53HK7 outputs.
Any idea what the equivalent innards are ? Looks to be abt 10 watts Pd , perhaps close to 6V6 or 6BQ5. Looks like it wants lower B+ ,so a lower output Z .

The 6HE7 appears to have the same pentode.

Hope this isn't against the rules, but I have a bunch of NOS 6LU8s and a few NOS 6LR8s and 4 each 9 and 12 pin compactron chassis mount sockets that I need to find a new home for. I bought these to make some amps for friends but they've all bailed on me, and I have no time to build anything for myself right now.
Email for details.
Thanks,
Jim

Idea # 2~ Compactron Baby Huey?
The longer I try to cook up a push-pull amp with Compactrons the closer I get to the Baby Huey design! Do you think that that would work ,with a lower Z output transformer?
Another thought to shoot full of holes 😕
