Hi all,
I have just purchased a Davis Powerbeam PJ from ebay, am going to retrofit it very soon with a 7" lilliput etc.....
Should look real nice in the commercial case which will probably need cutting down slightly but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it!
Now on to the questions....
1 - The Davis has electronically controlled zoom and focus which I plan to create a controller board for as they are a nice feature, my question is - can the lens that is in this projector be used for my DIY PJ?
2 - Wheres the best place for me to purchase a lilliput for the PJ? I have tried ebay but to no avail!
3 - I read on Ace_3000's thread that he was going to produce plans based on his nice looking PJ, did this ever happen?
I know some of these questions may have already been answered on other threads but I just cant find any!
Hope people can answer my questions, thanks!

I can answer #1.
No.
The LCD in your projector is probably around 1.5" diagonally. If you try to focus on a 7" Lilliput...you'll get 1.5" of that screen. This is because your lense is around 40mm-80mm. The lenses used in a DIY are typically 280mm+
😉
edit: actually you'll get a circular image of around 4" of that screen 🙄

Thanks for the info, after I posted the thread last night it suddenly dawned on me that I wouldnt be able to use the lens 🙁
Right, the mp3car site seems to be down so Im looking on digitalww instead, can't see any lilliput LCD's though
Had a quick scout round on ebay but they all seem to either have a TV tuner or a touch screen, will this make any difference given my intended usage for the screen?

A touch screen overlay is about $70. so you could resell the overlay and the overlay controller for around....$80.... but you do not need an overlay and that tv tuner is pitiful.
try the http://www.mp3car.com/store/ site again and there are 7" non VGA non-touchscreen lilliputs for $130.

Thank, site seems to be working now!
I've found these ones http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=77
Are they the same LCD as used in Ace_3000's PJ?
How do they differ from this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Lilliput-7-X...89582QQcategoryZ67771QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
I have sketched out a really rough plan to see if fitting this setup is going to be feasable in the commercial PJ case, if someone can have a quick look and see if it could all fit into a case that is roughly 11" by 11" square?
And obviously suggest some improvments to it! I realise there are other parts I will need but the sketch is roughly how everything should work isn't it?
Thanks

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
the first is RCA/Composite input. the second one(ebay) is a XVGA. meaning you could hook it up to a computer and have a clear screen. the VGA controllers(built into the second one) usually around $70 to buy aside.
whats your usage? there are many computer-based theater systems which would REQUIRE a VGA LCD. but if you just plan on watching tv/dvd's on it. go with the one from mp3car.com. I would personally go with the Mp3car.com one simply because I know they are very good when it comes to shipping/transactions. they are very reliable and the screen if probably all you would need.

in the front right on the projector...in that empty square, thats where you would place your LCD controller.
Thanks for the input Escalade,
The commercial case I have is 11" by 11" square
Will that be enough space between my LCD and lens to allow a good throw distance?
Are there any calculators I can use to calculate screen size, throw distance etc.....
Or can I get a zoom lens???

For now think i'm going to try and get the lcd in this PJ to do the job for me, but first I need to solve a problem!
The PJ makes a crazy noise when I switch it on, even without a bulb in it, anyone any ideas???
I have attatched this video clip so please people, have a look and help me out!

Sounds to me like the fan fouling something.
I've just bought a faulty Powerbeam (awaiting delivery), so I might be able to help you a bit soon.
If not, I might be interested in buying any bits you don't want😀

Its definetly not the fan, its the high pitched screeeching noise it makes when you turn it on, the bulb tries to strike but just doesnt make it, more glows!
Anyone any ideas?
