I know that most people trying to use small lcd panels have left the building and that OHP is the main choice so consider me a fish going upstream 😎 I found the following link to a panel that looks like a good trade off between price / quality. I'd very much would like to hear some comments on it's specs.

It's basically a wider version of 320x240. If you're happy with that small of resolution, it's about as cheap as you're going to get for a wide-screen monitor. Keep in mind that 14" LCD flat panels can be bought new for under $200 if you shop around -- that's 1024x768 resolution. I realize you probably don't want to go the OHP route, but computer monitors just simply have a much better quality. As far as small panels go, that's an okay monitor that looks like it would probably work.
I think the resolution is way too low for an enjoyable picture at a 6 foot diagonal, but that's my own opinion.

Agreed. This looks more like it but I'm afraid to ask for a price as it will be very expensive I think. Resolution of the 7 inch and 10.4 inch models look more appropriate.

I found pricing in the range of USD 400 - 650 new so rather outside my price range plus it would make this project way to serious. It would also require purchase approval from my wife
Mind you it seems car entertainment is growing very rapidly in the US / Canada (I live in Toronto) so perhaps prices will drop in the near future.

400 usd? do u know wat that is in US dollars? this project IS serious..well it shouldnt be too pricey but i think its serious, alot off ppl have their projectors as a permanent solution to retail projectors. thats what i plan to do 🙂 and when i get my career started i plan to make it REALLY "serious" im gonna buy a pricey monitor and mod it 🙂
