Clock PLL - ADF4001 anyone?

Hi,

In my next DAC project, I am going to try reclocking from local VCXO, and so I am evaluating my options in analog PLL chips. Has anyone around here used ADF4001? Seems like a nice enough chip on paper, but the bother of setting up MCU just for it... Or maybe the old MC145151? THAT does not need an MCU 🙂.

Hi

We did it the straightforward way

I do not know what is inside these chips so no clue on their performance

best regards

I know about your design. In fact, I have been tempted to build it, but where do you get the now obsolete chips?

But now that you bring it up, I have a question for you. Why did you go for discrete logic instead of integrated phase detector? 7 logic ICs take up a lot of PCB space...

Hi

If you refer to NPC5842: I supply a plugin that emmulates its' function, it is based upon the NPC5847

Discrete phase comperator: Because it is pure, and all other chips we considered are not, or lack linearity.

Board space was a design issue, but low jitter was one as well !
