Class D project / power supply advice

Hi all, this is my first post on the forums which I have found to be very interesting overall.

I would like to ask the knowledgeable folk here for some advice about a 12 speaker setup I am looking to build. I am not sure this is the right forum as I am after an off the shelf or kit setup and my question really is if you think the following components would do the job:

Speakers:
These are 4 Ohm 40W speakers with 85dB sensitivity
There are 12 of them so I was thinking of a series parallel setup with a resulting impedance of 5.3 Ohms

Amplifier:
Space is an issue here, hence the class D option. Would this one work for my setup?

Power supply:
Again, space is crucial so I have looked around and found this but I am not sure whether it would be compatible with the amp listed above.

So if anyone has some good advice on the suitability of these two boards I would be very grateful for your opinions.

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks Jon! completely missed that it was AC not DC! Thanks for pointing it out.

I assume that this solution might work?

However, a toroid is generally quite heavy and I am looking for something that is both compact and lightweight if possible.

Would you be able to recommend an alternative (compact and lightweight) solution ?

At 50HZ there is no light weight solution due to the iron content because of the mains frequency.
How much power do you actually need?
There apears to be a bridge rec and smoothing caps on board of your amp. 28v AC X 2 seems to be the absolute maximum voltage before damage may occur.
That is +40v and -ve 40v DC
I would use 25 0 25V like tis one; MCTA300/25 - MULTICOMP - 300VA TOROIDAL 2X25V | CPC UK

After (some more) research, I stumbled upon this DIY setup which looks ideal for my purpose.

I have a few questions though:

- would this power supply do the job? I see it's +-54V, not 60V but is it useable anyway?
- would it be advisable to put IRS2092 back to back (with a small separation) ? This is to save on the space element.
- finally, how would the level be adjusted from the source (mp3 player) as I do not see a potentiometer on the board (excuse what may be a naive question!)?

Thanks again for all your input - really appreciated.

How much power are you looking at?

If you're looking at 480W you're better off looking at class D amps with on-board AC power supplies.

Thanks for the suggestion wwenze but this will be a little bit too big for my application. I wouldn't want to exceed 20cm in any dimension.

I'll keep this product in mind for any future projects though.

Well, after contacting the seller it turns out they have a 60V version so I will probably go for that if I go for this option.

So two options as far as I understand are:

1- This amp with toroid transformer

or

2- This amp with an SMPSR500 psu

Which solution would you guys recommend and why?

Thanks!
