I have been in contact with a designer of a new Class A amplifier, reported to do 300watts x2 into 4ohms.
The following response was given when asked "Is the amp 'pure' Class A or does it switch to Class B?
Can anyone shed more light on what the designer meant?
I am attempting to gain more knowledge on Class A amplifier design.
Thanks,

Something was lost in the translation I suppose...not to mention my ignorance 😕 with amplifier design doesn't help!We 100% follow the "A" design on first voltage stage and did a little be different on second current stage. Also add in a tube design method. So it is more like over 90% class "A" design.
The major different is to keep the amp cooling compare the pure "A" design and will save some current when the amp is not playing.
Can anyone shed more light on what the designer meant?

Sounds like the first stage is class A only. 300 watts x2 would need heatsinks the size of stove and probably a three phase supply.
it is a normal Class AB amplifier
if we call all amplifiers with an Input stage running Class A
for Class A
... then there is nothing but Class A around
false marketing = audio lie!

Look GRYPHON ANTHILEON SIGNATURE. It's 100kg beast which runs on 70 degrees, and I doubth it is all 150W in A...

It would be a stove. With over 1200W of power from the line, it would at least be like a toaster. Could be useful to you folks living up in the frozen North.

Like this golden oldy.

Wow two of those working class AB would be great for my listening room, but I guess I would be expelled from the neighbourhood. 😀 😀 😀
