Hi, Im looking at deffintly adding more low end to our speaker set up with our P.A. mainly looking for more bottom deffinition from our kick drum, bass guitar, and possibly a synth. i have been researching this for a while, and dont know weather to buy a sub with low pass filters 45-800hz. or using speakers 38-2.4khz. i want to add great deffinition and want alot of massive bottom end and wondering if i should just make a cabinet with tweeters? I would like to use 18" or 15" speakers. and would like to do a 2x cabinet or 2 1x. i am just not sure what exactly would be right for me. any help or ideas would be greatly appriciated! Thank You!
Many bar bands use a 50-17khz package speaker (15"+horn), then add some bottom with a sub package. Lots of bands on TV (soundstage, austin city limits) are showing 4x15" walls of sound on stage. Don't know what they are powering up, though, some of that may be show. 118 or dual 15 or quad 15 speakers are costing nearly as much as new on craiglist however, indication that people like them. 4x12 or 2x12 are the ones people want rid of. The time alignment, defined distortion limits, and known flat frequency response of a package 50-17k speaker gives your keyboard player something to play with if he leads. Electric guitars seem to sound fine on 15 only packages. If your setup is not time aligned, a drum hit will sound like "ka-papow" in the audience. As far as putting it all in one package, even a 140 lb Peavey SP7 with two 15 woofers is 10 db down at 38 hz.
