Hi there. I need to build a 3 channel amp for the surround channels
(centre & rears)
My Marantz is stereo amp only; but does have full 5.1 processing & 5.1 o/p's enabling 5.1 via a external amps.
Since 5.1 is high processed & completely artificial, would it would be a waste to build quality amps?? (ie just use chipamps)
Or have a good amp for the centre(vocals are important) & chipamps for the rear(which only really are for sound effects). They would need to run of the same power supply for ease of construction.
Do I need to consider that the rear will have longer than normal runs of speaker cable??
I need an amp that I can still buy a PCB for so..
The cheap options I've considered are
1)LM3886 chipamps (I have some unfinished kits I was building for the PC)
2)P101 : I have a few of the mosfets I can use
3)use my old AEM6000(aem6000 with different PCB) for the centre & something else for the rears(the boards are large & awkward to fit into cases). The 2nd AEM6005 intermittently cuts out & would need a full build to make it reliable(I I have a 3rd usused PCB somewhere)
From the posts Ive read, the P101 may be a better option the the 6005.
I have all the parts for the power supplies so that will keep the costs down
I also still have a quite a few of the old T03 Hitachi mosfets (ex old Jaycar/DSE kits) I could use. However TO3 aren't the easiest thing to mount on heatsinks & I dont know of any PCB's available for Hitachi TO3 based amps.
I'd appreciate any input
Thanks
