Chinese KT88 amp

I have seen it all now;

"2 Milliammeters independently in real-time display your power tubes emmsion values, assure your power tube have a good value, and chang the value if you want for a better "Overclocking"(do not recommande for junoir )".

Don't think I would spend my money with a company that cannot even use a spell checker let alone use capacitor clamps instead of tie wraps!

The last two Chinese FU29 amplifiers that came in for service whilst almost new had the mains neutral connected to the chassis. Extremely dangerous! Purchase if you must but only if you are a competent electronics engineer with a full background.

I have not really studied the Chinese amp scene because my interest lies in DIY and refurbishment of classic tube era designs but my basic philosophy is that one's capabilities in recognizing design and build faults and correcting them should be in line with the risks one takes on products of unknown or suspect quality.

If you are not particularly skilled then I would go with amps that have a clear track record of being of good quality and/or with known simple modifications to be made so (some searching here will likely turn up good candidates). The more people that have experience with a particular amp the more likely you will find success in the end due to that knowledge base.

I will also note that a good KT88 amp is not an inexpensive proposition. The tubes themselves are not cheap and they are quite muscular (anode dissipation can be in excess of 40W) requiring some substantial parts to support them such as fairly sturdy output transformers, power transformers etc. Thus a very low price amp is likely to have skimped somewhere. I built a SE KT88 amp using decent quality but not top of the line parts and I would say my investment including using salvaged chassis and power cord was solidly north of $400. I used Edcor power and output trannies along with Hammond power supply chokes. Tubes were new production (mostly Russian). I used decent quality but not golden ear Poly caps throughout and mid priced electrolytics for power supply. It sounds really nice IMO but a slick looking commercial product for 25% less seems suspect to me.

You should at least stretch your budget to get something like a Yaqin. These low budget Chinese amps don't come anywhere near published specs, and when you buy something like a Nobsound product, your likelihood of getting counterfeit parts increases.

If you're on a budget, a Magnavox 6V6 console tube amp can be purchased for not a lot of money.
