im wanting to build some absurdly cheap speakers for my computer at work. mainly for looking at funny clips online (i have a laid back job), or MAYBE listening to music, but not as much. mainly, its just for fun. i want to see how silly i can make a pair of speakers look. (almost like my cardboard box amp).
i was thinking about using the partsexpress extended range speakers that are $2.75 each. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=299-300
they seem pretty flat for so cheap. it doesnt look like you would really need a tweeter either. they will have NO bottom end, but its just for my work computer. space is limited as well. i will throw in a gainclone on each one for power (or a tripath).
im thinking about tupperware or something for the enclosure 🙂 or maybe a little wooden box or something. anyone have any clever ideas for a cheap little speaker setup?

Plastic pipe that you would see typically used for drain lines. You can get nice angled pieces or T shapes.
hum, thats a good idea actually. i wouldnt do angles probably because i want them small. but, with a reducer and a smaller pipe, they could be little desk-standing speakers 🙂
i have a very small office, and limited desk space is the only place for them. but those do look cool.
Rob was working on t-lines so they would naturally be longer but I've seen some only a few inches high that work well. Not much in the bass extension department but that's not the goal here anyway. I've been thinking about a TB W4-654 in a 45 degree pipe about 9 inches long.
Heres some computer speakers I threw together. They sound better than the cheap plastic ones I had before 🙂
They were made from little picture box things I got from Wal-Mart for $2/pr and I cut an old shelf up, and used left over vinyl laminate.
