I am in need of erasing and reprogramming a few 27C256, and my EPROM UV-erasing equipment is 210 kilometers away, so I wonder if it will work with a simple 4W counterfeit bill detector. If so, then I dont need to drive that far to get one for small money.
Hi,
No that will not work. For erasing you'll need short wavelength UV (UV-C) with substantial power. The bill detectors emit long wavelength UV (UV-B to UV-A) at low power.
So maybe you can use snail-mail to get the e-proms to the eraser or get the eraser at your place.
Other options: Put the e-proms in direct sunlight or use a mercury sunlamp.
And in the very end you can try to get some eeprom replacements.
Good luck 😉

Thanks, but I have already ordered a brand new eraser. We have twice that voltage here 🙂
