Hi,
wanted any info on Challenge Mark 1B receiver, pic's attached.
Made in Japan, might be a pioneer sx clone. Appears to be of some
quality with Elna/Nichicon caps and extensive wire wrapping rather
than solder. Estimate 20-30wrms based on 2A speaker fuses.
Power transistors are 2SB596/2SB526, used in SX-550 but does not
appear to be a 550 clone. Vaguely recall that these TR's are nothing
special.
Plan to recap after measurements for baseline. Sound wise, not as
good as my B-system with recapped Rotel RX-202 MkII, so happy
that the A-system is rarely used (however need to sort out dc thump
at p on/off)
The Mark 1B looks great, built like a tank, 480mmx330mmx15mm
and maybe 8-10kg, hopefully after the recap...
Ideally someone can identify the amp copied so I can work off a
service manual.
thanks
