I had a same problem.. and I had same idea with power supply capacitors..

The next thing I did was replacing all capacitors.. and the problem was gone.. so I still do not know which specifically was to blame..

The hum is caused most likely from the 100uf 25v or 100uf 50v caps in the power supply and the rattling is the spring that is attached to the magnet disc clamp.
