I received a Carver C1 preamp from an acquaintance. It was free so there is no way I am passing it up and plan on using it with my Carver ALS speakers with BGW 750 amps.
Upon inspection, it appears that the board will need to be resoldered, if I am reading the solder correctly. Also, there is a burn mark on the other side of the board where a capacitor is. Can someone tell me what caused this and if I should just replace all of the caps?
Thanks! Michael

The soldering looks fine from here and I wouldn't worry about the flux, but you can clean it if you want to. The dark spot on the board is caused by heat from the zener diode on the other side. It is normal for them to run hot.
You can see if the power supply is working correctly by measuring the DC voltage drops across the two zeners and their series resistors: D407, R407, D408, and R408. The other components are nearby.

Do yourself a favor. Head over to TheCarverSite and look up the BillD mods.
They take this preamp to a whole nother level and if you capable w a soldering iron can be a VERY nice bang for the buck.
