I have a power acoustik lt980-2 amp. When i turn the amp on the red light comes on which indicates it is in protect mode. what does this exactly mean? how do i fix it?
Have you removed the bottom cover of the amp to see if any components appeared to have failed (soot, burned or cracked parts)?
no i didnt. i just took it to best buy after i posted this and had the guy test it. he said it is fried and cheaper to just buy a new one than fix it.
He said that because the brand of the amp is Power Acoustik and their pretty cheap. If it was a JL Audio, Rockford, PPI, ect high end amplifier he would of recommended to fix it.
ive fixed a few of these and have found all to have power supply failures. likely these amps use pretty cheap toroids in the ps which lik to short and blow the fets. the amp probably needs new fets and drivers along with fixing the toroid.
I have the same amp. And power light turns red as soon as one rca touches it. But light fours out when not touching. What does this mean

Probably why it failed in the first place.😀
