Car 12V filter

I would like to try to build Powersupply filter for the +12V line in the car since I hear the generator throught the speakers.
Maybe a shunt of somekind? What kind of topology is used in the ones that you can buy?

Try using choke from some old computer power supply in series with amplifier (or car radio), and another 100nF capacitor parallel to supply rails. The cap should be very close to the amp.

Noise filters for power wires are just a series inductor and one or two capacitors. Radio Shack sells them up to 20 amps.

If your noise is alternator whine and you have an external amplifier, filters don't help.
