My project requires 3 4,700uf capacitors. I purchased 3 of the pictured Kemet caps from Mouser without realising that they had multiple connection points.
I am uncertain as to what I have here. The pins are labelled 1-4 and a single “-“ negative.
Do I have a single 4,700uf cap or 4 4,700uf caps? If it is a single cap, what is the best way to make the connection to the circuit?

It is clearly written on the plastic sleeve that »1« is the positive and »-« is the negative terminal.

It is as Kay states, these are single caps with connections marked on the can sleeve.
The other pins are for mechanical stability when fitted to a PCB but these extra pins have no internal electrical connection to them (and generally you should not actually connect them to other parts of the circuit). Leave them floating electrically.

Thanks for your reply. I had never seen a cap like this before. Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of pins 2-4?

Yes, I suppose they are. Appears to be a good quality cap. I chose it for the long life per the data sheet.

Electrolytics built like this one once were very common over here in Europe, especially in multi capacitor arrangements (up to four capacitors in one can, dedicated especially for TV PSU's). Though being somewhat outdated by two pin snap in ones, they're still available for certain capacitance values and voltages.

In addition to mechanical stability, the positions of the pins ensure that the caps can't be fitted backwards during production. As a dummy who previously put a bunch of caps backwards in an amplifier power supply, I fully endorse idiot proof features to prevent such mistakes
