Hi,
Michael gave up the business quite some years ago. Having had a good contact with him at that time I lost track of him though.
I remember that he said, that the service of his panels and speakers would be done by someone else .... unfortunately I don´t know who.
He told me also that he´d move to the US where he got a job in the medical industry ... from where he came before building ESLs.
On linkedIn one can find a Michael Ehrlinspiel - Senior Director of Engineering at Admedes Inc. Livermore, California that could be him.

thank you Calvin, if its recoating I could try myself. Silberstatic and others ask 1200 eur, Sombetzki 500.
Hi,
yup, recoating can typically be done in DIY. 1200€ for recoating only I´d regard as an ambitioned price level for sure.

I have statclear coating and can check conductivity on some biaxially oriented pp foil or rescue foil.
My suggestion would be to vacuum clean first. A likely failure might be the contact strips / the connection between copperstrip and coating. I dont know whether you can take the two stators apart without damaging the mylar. If you could, and if you can acces the copper strip, then you dont need to recoat. Just replace copper strip.

How did you work out its a membrane coating issue?
I guess you did the usual problem checking stuff? Like swapped speaker cables left and right, checked the membrane charge, the high voltage output, checked for a dust short off the membrane, checked for corrosion on leads etc
When 6dB down occurred I've checked power cable and swapped speaker cable. It was still there. Today I measured and no difference. It means IEC power socket on speaker is quite loose with cable and can be so one speaker was longer not charged. I've contacted Capaciti he replied but not yet on this subject.
You can try: Popori Ottó, HungaryAnyone in Europe service Capaciti panels?
Hi jzagaja,
i have the same panels, build in Jan 2009. Until now i don't have any issues with coating.
and this problem would not appear suddenly with a 6db drop.
There should be another reason. Maybe a loose wire at on side of the the crossover.
Do you have any crackling soundsat higher volume?
have a nice day

Problem was IEC socket and loose plug - not enough charge. Now so far ok. Sombetzky is cheapest when asked - never did any restoration there.
maybe one stage of the multiplier broke ? maybe a bad cap along the way. try only changing panels using the electronics of the other panel. before venturing in coatings or spending money 🙂 i would say. since you cant go back
- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Planars & Exotics
- Capaciti e2.5 one 6dB quieter
