is it possible to use a desktop LCD monitor, make a projector, and connect it to a DVD player using the RCA video out cables? I want to be able to play my XBoX or my PS2 or connect it to my friends DVD player and watch movies on my projector.
You would have to find a LCD monitor that had the RCA inputs that matched your Xbox, PlayStation or DVD player. If the monitor only had a VGA input then you would have to get a VGA transcoder. Most LCD TV’s will have at least the composite (yellow) RCA input. Most computer monitors do not.

Search some more. You should be able to find them for under $100 US. The one that I had my eye on but never ended up needing was only $60, a Vdigi VD-Z3. The other option is to buy an LCD TV. They almost all come with composite (Yellow RCA), some add component (Y,Pr,Pb) and some you can get digital inputs like DVI or HDMI ( for when you upgrade to PS3😉 ).

you can definetly do this with the right monitor or lcd tv. look on e-bay for one with a bad backlight so you can strip it for the diy projector. there are many sources for less expensive LCD's out there, even the new ones are coming down in price. depends on the size of the lcd you are considering as well.
