Hi, I'd like to build a diy El34 pp amp. Is it worth building a clone of the marantz model 2, or are modern schematics "better"? Such as the Ank amps.
I have the transformers and I'll be building it from scratch.

Hi
it's a wonderfull project.
Are you looking this schema for variable dampling factor.
Good research

Thanks, I have the model 2 schematic. I just wondered how it would compare to more modern El34 designs
parkerdiy,
That sounds great!
You have the original vintage transformers?
If you post the schematic, some of us can look at it, and analyze it versus some other [modern and vintage] EL34 amplifiers that we might already know something about.
Or, we might analyze the amplifier on its own merits.
I generally let original posters help me, so I can help them. I should not have to search for the schematic on my own.
With my eyes and glasses, I can only read clear and medium to large size schematics as they appear in a thread.
Thanks!

Hi
Whatever the schema you 'll use, vintage or modern, you will have to adapt the CR and the stabilization networks to the transformer, your amp must be stable with eatch load.

Ok thanks. So is it better to build a different el34 amp? Any recommendations?
Member THD+N has designed an Eico HF-87 clone with Hammond transformers that is well-tuned and stabilized. No need for concern about performance. The Eico is very similar to the Marantz, actually, minus the damping controls. It was a lovely amp and I'm guessing the clone is equally nice-sounding.
